Hello! I am Hatice Acar, and I am a PhD student at the University of Glasgow, Philosophy Department in the United Kingdom.

I am pursuing a doctorate in Political, Legal, and Moral Philosophy. Academically, I specialize in freedom, happiness, human rights, human dignity, liberalism, oppression, autonomy in the face of society and history. Individually, I focus on healthy self, academic development, social justice, and game theory.

Institutionally, I am the founder of a cultural initiative called Gunes Fikir Akademi (Sun Thought Academy) and an art initiative called Nous Store. I also actively manage my role on the executive board of the Glasgow Turkish Society.

Regarding my life story:

I was born in Izmir, Turkey. I completed my primary and secondary education there, graduating from Necip Demir Anatolian Communication High School in Izmir-Karşıyaka.

I then attended METU where I took courses in historical methodology for two terms and was named a high honor student twice in a row. My undergraduate education was completed at Katip Celebi University (Izmir Turkey), where I shifted my focus to Theology due to my curiosity in the field, graduating as the top student of the faculty by breaking the faculty’s scoring record (3.96/4.0) in 2020. During my undergraduate studies, I intellectually engaged with Political Theology, the Metaphysics of Human Rights, and Moral Philosophy.

During the summer breaks as an undergraduate, I conducted research in different countries. I worked in the libraries of various institutions like the International University of Africa (2018), University of Khartoum (2018), and University of Jordan (2019), while also collaborating with the students on cultural and volunteer activities benefiting human rights.

I completed my Master of Science specializing in Political Philosophy at the University of Glasgow (2022) supported by an international excellence scholarship.

My thesis title: Autonomy-Based Liberalism and Food Insecurity

I got my Master of Arts degree specializing in the Philosophy of History and Social Sciences at Ibn Haldun University (Istanbul, Turkey) (2023) supported by a national excellence scholarship.

My thesis title: The Problem of Determinism in History.

Alongside my native language of Turkish, I am fluent in English and Arabic, and I am continuing my studies in Hebrew and French. Personally, I have a multidisciplinary, curious, enthusiastic, and extroverted character. I strive to carry the awareness that “the life opportunity is the greatest opportunity” to every corner of my private life.
